AI-Assisted CAD Engineer & Mentor Needed
hr USD 8–15
About the project
We are looking for a CAD engineer with deep, practical experience using modern AI systems to generate complex 2D and 3D production drawings. The top priority for this role is knowledge transfer. We need someone who not only masters the process but can effectively teach our team how to replicate and maintain AI-assisted workflows. The candidate must be able to document, explain, and train us on turning 3D models into production-ready 2D drawings with part numbers and full detailed BOMs. We work in light steel frame construction for the skatepark and roller sports industry (ramps, platforms, rails, modular structures, etc.). Primary Responsibilities * Convert complex 3D models into complete sets of fabrication-ready 2D production/shop drawings, including accurate dimensions, annotations, unique part numbering, and structured Bills of Materials (BOM) * Develop, document, and teach repeatable AI-assisted workflows for 3D-to-2D production detailing * Mentor and train our internal team on current AI tools, techniques, and best practices for CAD generation, detailing, annotation, and BOM creation * Evaluate and recommend AI tools and processes that fit our light steel frame production needs * Produce high-quality deliverables while simultaneously building our team's capability to handle future projects independently Key Requirements (Teaching & Knowledge Transfer is Top Priority) * Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor others on AI-powered CAD workflows (not just deliver final outputs) * Proven personal workflow for efficiently converting 3D models into detailed 2D production drawings + part numbering + BOM using AI systems * Strong experience with current AI capabilities in CAD (generative design, AI detailing/automation tools, LLM-assisted scripting, automated BOM generation, etc.) and a willingness to share this knowledge transparently * Proficiency in professional CAD software suitable for steel fabrication (SolidWorks, Inventor, Rhino + Grasshopper, Tekla, AutoCAD, or equivalent) * Experience creating production drawings for light steel frame / welded steel structures * Excellent communication and training skills — able to explain complex processes clearly to a team that is transitioning to AI-augmented methods Test Project & Evaluation Selected candidates will receive a complex 3D model typical of our projects. Deliverables will include: * Full set of 2D production drawings with part numbers and detailed BOM * Comprehensive documentation of the exact workflow used (tools, steps, prompts/scripts, settings, etc.) * A training/mentoring session (recorded if needed) explaining how to replicate the process on similar models This test will evaluate both the quality of the output and the clarity of the teaching materials and knowledge transfer. What We Expect from the Engagement * Production-quality CAD files and drawings * Detailed workflow documentation and training materials * Hands-on mentoring sessions to upskill our team * Ongoing support (as needed) for implementing and refining the AI CAD processes This is a hands-on teaching and implementation role. Candidates who can only deliver drawings without teaching the underlying AI workflows will not be considered. We are looking for a collaborator who will help us build internal capability in AI-assisted production detailing for our light steel frame projects.
