About the project

# Project Title 3D Designer Needed to Convert Solid Edge Models into Realistic Metallic Web-Ready 3D Models # Project Description We already have completed 3D models created by our engineering team using Solid Edge. However, when these models are exported from Solid Edge, they do not retain the same realistic metallic and steel appearance visible inside the Solid Edge software. The exported models currently appear dark, black, carbon-like, flat, or dull instead of looking like realistic polished steel or metal. We are looking for an experienced 3D designer, 3D artist, or visualization specialist who can: * Import our existing Solid Edge 3D models. * Correctly prepare and optimize the model geometry. * Apply realistic steel, stainless-steel, metallic, or brushed-metal materials. * Improve reflections, roughness, surface finish, and overall realism. * Create a professional, real-life product appearance. * Optimize the models for smooth loading and interaction on a website. * Export the final models in a web-compatible format. The models will be displayed interactively on our website, where users may be able to rotate, zoom, and inspect them. # Important Technical Requirement STL may be provided as an intermediate format, but STL does not normally preserve materials, textures, reflections, or realistic metallic appearance. The preferred final format should therefore be: * GLB or glTF for website integration. * Additional formats such as FBX, OBJ, STEP, or USDZ may also be provided where appropriate. * The final GLB/glTF file should include properly configured PBR materials and textures. The freelancer should recommend the most suitable export and optimization workflow based on our website requirements. # Scope of Work 1. Review the original Solid Edge files or exported files provided by us. 2. Import and clean the 3D geometry without changing important dimensions or product details. 3. Fix any geometry, normals, smoothing, shading, or mesh-related issues. 4. Apply realistic metallic materials matching the appearance of the actual product. 5. Create realistic steel reflections, highlights, roughness, and surface finishes. 6. Add brushed, polished, matte, chrome, or stainless-steel finishes where required. 7. Optimize polygon count while retaining visual quality. 8. Reduce the final file size for fast website loading. 9. Test the model in a browser-based 3D viewer. 10. Export and provide the completed web-ready files. # Expected Deliverables * Final optimized GLB or glTF model. * Embedded or separately provided PBR textures. * Metallic, roughness, normal, base-color, and ambient-occlusion maps where required. * Source file from Blender, 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, or the software used for preparation. * Any additional recommended formats such as FBX or OBJ. * Browser-tested version of the model. * Preview images or video showing the completed metallic appearance. * Clear instructions for integrating the model into our website. * Confirmation that the final model can be used commercially. # Visual Quality Requirements The completed model should: * Look like a real manufactured metal product. * Have a convincing steel or stainless-steel finish. * Show realistic reflections and surface highlights. * Avoid appearing completely black, carbon-like, plastic, or excessively dull. * Maintain accurate shape, proportions, engineering details, and dimensions. * Look professional on both desktop and mobile devices. * Display correctly under a suitable HDRI or browser-based lighting environment. # Website Optimization Requirements The freelancer should have experience with: * GLB and glTF optimization. * PBR materials. * Texture baking. * Mesh decimation and polygon optimization. * Draco or Meshopt compression. * Three.js, Babylon.js, model-viewer, or similar browser-based 3D technologies. * Lighting and environment setup for metallic objects. * Optimizing models without significantly reducing visual quality. # Preferred Freelancer Experience Please apply only if you have experience with one or more of the following: * Solid Edge, SolidWorks, STEP, Parasolid, or CAD model conversion. * Blender, 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, KeyShot, Substance 3D Painter, or similar tools. * Realistic industrial product visualization. * Steel, stainless-steel, chrome, aluminium, and brushed-metal materials. * Preparing engineering or CAD models for websites. * Creating interactive web-ready 3D assets. * PBR texturing and realistic rendering. # Information to Include in Your Proposal Please include: 1. Examples of similar metallic or industrial 3D models you have created. 2. Examples of 3D models you have optimized for websites. 3. The software and workflow you propose to use. 4. Your recommended final file format. 5. Whether you can preserve the model’s dimensions and engineering details. 6. Your estimated turnaround time per model. 7. The approximate final file size you expect to achieve. 8. Whether you can provide a browser-based test or demo. 9. Your pricing per model or for the complete project. Generic proposals without relevant industrial or metallic 3D work samples may not be considered. # Project Type This may begin with one sample model. If the sample meets our quality and website-performance requirements, additional models may be assigned as ongoing work. # Suggested Skills * 3D Modelling * 3D Rendering * Blender * Solid Edge * CAD/CAM * glTF * GLB * Three.js * WebGL * PBR Texturing * Substance Painter * Product Visualization * Mesh Optimization * Industrial Design * 3D Animation
