3D Aircraft Covers Modeling
USD 250–750
About the project
3D ARTISTS NEEDED: REALISTIC AIRCRAFT COVERS Project Overview: We are developing a collection of realistic 3D aircraft-cover assets for use with existing 3D models of private aircraft. The client will supply the aircraft models. You will not be creating the aircraft. Your job will be to create realistic, professionally manufactured fabric covers that fit the supplied aircraft accurately. The project will include a variety of private aircraft, including single- and multi-engine propeller aircraft, and private/business jets. This is a specialized project for an artist who understands fabric construction, realistic draping, seams, stitching, tension, and fitted covers. What We Need: The aircraft covers should look like real-world, professionally manufactured covers, not simple smooth 3D shells. Depending on the aircraft, the covers may include: Accurate contours and fit around the aircraft Multiple fabric panels Realistic or an indication of seams and stitching Natural folds, wrinkles, and fabric compression Realistic fabric draping and tension Zippers and/or other closures Straps and attachment points Buckles, fasteners, and other hardware where appropriate Realistic fabric texture and material properties Correct openings or cutouts where required A clean and professional 3D model suitable for visualization We will provide reference photographs, drawings, measurements, and other information to help establish the correct construction and appearance. Marvelous Designer experience is strongly preferred. We believe Marvelous Designer may be particularly well suited to this project because the covers need to behave and appear like actual fitted fabric. We are particularly interested in artists who have experience creating: Garments Protective covers Vehicle covers Upholstery Tents or fabric structures Bags or soft goods Other products involving realistic fabric construction and draping Experience with aircraft is a plus, but excellent fabric modeling skills are more important than previous aircraft experience. Software: Marvelous Designer is strongly preferred. Experience with Blender, 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, or other professional 3D software is welcome. Please tell us which software you use and your preferred workflow for creating the fabric models and final materials. Paid Sample Project: We will select the most promising applicants to complete a paid sample project before committing to a larger series of aircraft covers. The sample project will be based on an existing aircraft 3D model and reference materials supplied by us. The selected artist(s) will be paid up to $400 USD for the sample project, depending on the agreed scope and deliverables. The sample is important because we need to evaluate: Realism Accuracy of fit Fabric behavior Quality of seams and stitching Quality of construction details Quality of materials and textures Ability to interpret reference photographs Overall visual quality Successful completion of the sample project may lead to additional aircraft-cover projects. We are seeking 2-3 artists who could become long-term members of the project team as we model the covers for the hundreds of aircraft we sell covers for. Who We Are Looking For: The ideal candidate will have: Excellent 3D modeling skills Strong experience with realistic fabric and soft-goods modeling Marvelous Designer experience Excellent understanding of fabric draping and tension Strong texturing and material skills Excellent attention to detail Ability to work accurately from reference material Good communication skills Ability to follow detailed visual and construction specifications Aircraft experience is helpful, but you do not need to be an aircraft specialist. PLEASE INCLUDE WITH YOUR APPLICATION To help us evaluate applicants efficiently, please provide: Your portfolio At least 2-3 examples of realistic fabric or soft-goods modeling Examples of work created in Marvelous Designer, if applicable The 3D software you use A brief description of your experience creating realistic fabric, covers, garments, or similar objects Your typical hourly rate or project rate Your current availability Your estimated turnaround time for a project of this type IMPORTANT Please do not submit only examples of aircraft modeling unless you also have relevant experience with fabric modeling. We are primarily looking for an artist who can make the covers look and behave like real fabric. We are interested in developing an ongoing relationship with the right artist and potentially producing a series of aircraft-cover models.
