Web Developer Required – Interactive 2D & 3D Modular Dock Builder with Quote Generator We are a modular floating dock and pontoon company looking for an experienced developer to build an interactive online 2D and 3D dock configurator for our website. Our modular docking system consists of 500mm × 500mm interconnecting floating cubes, allowing docks, pontoons, walkways and floating platforms to be created in different sizes and configurations. We want customers to be able to design their own dock online, view it in 2D and 3D, add accessories and receive an estimated price or submit the completed design for a formal quotation. Core Functionality 1. 2D Dock Builder Create a simple grid-based design interface based on a 500mm × 500mm grid. Users should be able to: Click or drag to add floating cubes Remove cubes Create rectangular and custom-shaped docks Create fingers, walkways and larger platforms Automatically calculate overall dimensions Zoom and move around the design Undo/redo changes Start from a blank design or potentially select a standard dock template The interface needs to be simple enough for customers with no CAD experience. 2. Accessories / Components Users should be able to add components such as: Handrails Kickboards Aluminium gangways Cleats Ladders Mooring/anchoring points Boat or jet ski dock components Other accessories Some components will attach to a dock edge, while others may attach to a particular cube/location. 3. Interactive 3D View The completed design should be viewable as an interactive 3D model. Users should be able to: Rotate the dock Zoom in/out Pan around the design Switch between 2D and 3D See realistic modular floating cubes and accessories We can provide photographs, measurements and product information to assist with development of the required 3D assets. Experience with Three.js, WebGL, React Three Fiber or similar browser-based 3D technology is highly desirable. 4. Automatic Bill of Materials The system should calculate the components required for the customer's design, for example: Number of floating cubes Connection components Handrail quantity Gangway Cleats Ladders Other accessories The 2D drawing, 3D model, bill of materials and pricing should all be generated from the same underlying configuration data. 5. Pricing / Quote Generator Each component will have pricing stored in the system. As the customer changes the design, the system should calculate an estimated price. We would also like the ability to support: Purchase Pricing and potentially: Hire Pricing Pricing needs to be editable by us through an admin area rather than hard-coded into the application. For larger or more complicated commercial projects, the system may display Request a Quote rather than an automatic final price. 6. Customer Quote Request Once the design is complete, customers should be able to enter details including: Name Company Email Phone Project location Intended application Purchase or hire Required date Hire duration where applicable Additional project information The customer's exact dock configuration should be saved with the enquiry. Ideally, the system would generate a unique project/quote reference and a PDF or similar summary containing: 2D dock layout Overall dimensions 3D image/render Component quantities Estimated pricing Customer/project details The enquiry and design would then be sent to our sales team. Website Integration Our existing website is WordPress. The configurator can be developed as a separate web application and embedded/integrated into the existing website if this provides better performance and maintainability. We are open to recommendations regarding the best architecture. Possible technology could include: React / Next.js TypeScript Three.js / React Three Fiber SVG or Canvas for the 2D builder Supabase/PostgreSQL or similar backend We are not fixed on the technology stack and are interested in recommendations from developers with relevant experience. Mobile / Tablet Support The configurator should work across: Desktop Tablet Mobile Desktop/tablet will likely provide the most advanced design experience, but the mobile version should still be easy to use. Important – Relevant Experience Required This is not a standard WordPress website development project. We are specifically looking for a developer or small team with experience building interactive applications such as: Product configurators 2D layout/design tools Floor planners CAD-style web applications Kitchen/deck/fence configurators 3D product builders Three.js/WebGL applications Please include links, screenshots or videos of similar configurators or interactive applications you have personally developed. Generic applications that do not demonstrate relevant experience will not be considered. Development Approach We would prefer to develop the project in milestones, potentially: Milestone 1: 2D grid-based dock builder prototype Milestone 2: Accessories, component calculations and bill of materials Milestone 3: Interactive 3D visualisation Milestone 4: Pricing and quote generation Milestone 5: Admin controls, website integration and mobile optimisation We would like the successful developer to work with us to refine the functionality and user experience during development. Your estimated development timeframe. Your estimated budget or milestone pricing. Any recommendations you have for improving the proposed system. We are looking for someone who can potentially continue working with us after the initial project as the configurator is expanded with additional products and functionality.
