Backyard Pool Landscape Masterplan

About the project

I have a 1.3-acre lot (about 40,000 sq ft of usable backyard) and we are about to install a new swimming pool. I’m comfortable doing the heavy lifting myself; what I need from you is a complete vision translated into clear 2D and 3D drawings that I can follow step-by-step, potentially over the next few years. Overall look & feel • Style: Traditional, with materials and detailing that respect the architecture of the house while still feeling fresh. • Plant palette: Primarily low-maintenance species suited to our climate. • Core uses to be supported: – Entertaining guests – Family activities – Relaxation – Exercise / lap swimming Scope of the plan Please develop a comprehensive landscape package that addresses: 1. Optimal pool placement and finished-floor elevation, factoring in existing grades and views. 2. Hardscape layout—decking, fire-pit area, connecting walkways, and any retaining elements—cohesive with a traditional aesthetic and safe for kids and pets. 3. Relocation zones for our current playscape and trampoline so they remain accessible yet visually integrated. 4. Concepts for a combined shed with bathroom and storage: recommended footprint, orientation, and exterior treatments. 5. Noise control strategies (planting masses, earthen berms, or decorative walls) to keep pool activity quiet for neighbors and muffle street noise for us. 6. Drainage notes and spot elevations showing how runoff will be captured or redirected away from structures and play surfaces. 7. Shade solutions—tree placement, pergola or solid roof ideas—and options for covering the existing patio without overpowering it. 8. Planting plan identifying trees, shrubs, and groundcovers, called out with botanical/common names and quantities. Deliverables • Scaled 2D master plan (PDF + source, e.g., AutoCAD or Vectorworks). • 3D renderings or model (SketchUp, Lumion, or comparable) illustrating day- and evening-time ambience. • Plant and materials schedule. • Brief implementation notes highlighting critical elevations, drainage details, and any recommended phased approach. I’ll be available to supply current survey, photos, and videos right away and can answer site-specific questions quickly.
