Hillside Chipping Course Design

About the project

I have a sloped parcel that I want to turn into a small, recreational chipping course. The vision is simple: a fun layout where family and friends can drop a few balls from several distinct tee boxes and work their short-game without the formality of a full course. Key requirements • Multiple tee boxes positioned to give varied shot lengths and angles. • Routing, grading, and green placement must respect the existing slope while keeping walk-backs comfortable. • Surrounding areas should keep their natural vegetation; I would like the course to feel as though it was discovered, not built. Minimal turf—just enough around the greens to play—and no extensive manicured fairways. • Drainage solutions are crucial on a hillside, so please allow for water run-off control in your concept. I am open to subtle sand features or other creative shot-shaping elements if they enhance playability without disrupting the natural look. Deliverables 1. Concept plan illustrating hole flow, tee boxes, greens, and paths. 2. Basic grading/contour map indicating cut-and-fill. 3. Planting and turf notes specifying which areas remain untouched and which need minimal grassing. 4. A short narrative (half page is fine) explaining design rationale and maintenance expectations. If you have experience with golf course architecture software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, SketchUp, or similar) let me know, but hand-drawn concept art is equally welcome as long as it communicates the idea clearly. I’ll provide a topographic survey and photos once we start. Looking forward to seeing how you’d shape a memorable short-game space while letting the hillside keep its rugged charm.
