About the project
I need an experienced 3D CAD designer to create production-ready 3D models for a new line of custom eyewear frames. The design workflow will be based on 3D face scans provided via KIRI Engine. Since mobile 3D scans require precise scaling, you will need to calibrate and scale the mesh files using specific facial measurements I will provide (such as interpupillary distance / PD) to guarantee an accurate 1:1 fit before designing the frame. The digital CAD files will be printed locally using high-precision additive manufacturing. Since the frames sit directly on the skin for extended periods, the design must account for biocompatible materials (such as ISO 10993-compliant nylon, PEI, or optical resins). The end product is an optical component, so dimensional accuracy around lens grooves (for fitting lenses) and hinge mounts (for attaching the temples/arms) must be tight. I need you to advise on the best CAD tolerances and wall thickness based on the selected manufacturing process (SLS, MJF, or SLA). The final frame designs must support: Accurate scan calibration scaled to provided facial dimensions (e.g., interpupillary distance). Adjustable sizing (bridge width and temple length tweaks across SKUs). Unique design patterns applied to the surfaces based on provided vector textures. Compatibility for local 3D printing and post-processing/dyeing. Project Scope & Structure: Phase 1 (This Fixed-Price Project): Master Template creation, establishing hinge/groove tolerances, and setting up the scan calibration workflow. Phase 2 (Ongoing Client Orders): Per-client frame adjustments based on individual face scans. Please state your estimated per-frame rate for ongoing orders in your proposal. Deliverables: Scaled/calibrated 3D head models based on provided KIRI scans and PD measurements. Production-ready 3D CAD files for frames in STEP and STL formats (minimum three size variants). Material and print specification guide to hand off to my local 3D printing partner. Technical recommendations for tolerances on lens grooves and hinge mounts. Timeline: Phase 1 (Initial Setup & Master Template): 1 to 2 weeks. Phase 2 (Ongoing Customer Orders): Fast turn-around required (24–48 hours per custom frame model).
