About the project

I want to walk away from this project with a fully-working, low-profile POV camera that can be mounted directly on a hockey visor and withstand on-ice conditions. My main goal is to record gameplay for training, so image quality matters more than live streaming or fancy add-ons—I would rather have crisp, high-resolution footage than compromise on size or weight. What I need from you: 1. Component selection • Identify an off-the-shelf micro camera module (or action-cam board) that delivers reliable high-resolution video and handles the vibration, temperature swings, and occasional impact of a hockey rink. • Recommend power and storage options that keep the unit self-contained—no dangling packs or bulky housings. 2. Mount & housing design • Create a slim 3D-printable mount that integrates into, or looks “built into,” the visor edge. The mount must be removable without tools so I can swap visors or share helmets. • Factor in anti-fog airflow, impact safety, and minimal extra weight on the visor. 3. Prototype build & test • Print the housing (PLA, PETG, or another material you suggest for rink temperatures). • Assemble the full system, wire and secure the electronics, and deliver a functioning prototype ready for ice-time testing. • Short demo video or photos to confirm the unit operates and fits a standard CCM/Bauer visor before shipping. Acceptance criteria • 1080p60 (minimum) recorded footage with no obvious vibration artefacts. • Camera plus mount adds no more than 40 g to the visor. • Quick-release mechanism removes in under 10 seconds. • All files supplied: 3D CAD, STL, wiring diagram, parts list with purchase links. If you already have experience with GoPro-style board cameras, Raspberry Pi Zero + HQ Camera, or comparable modules, please mention it—I’m open to whichever route best balances size, quality, and cost.
