Survey Draftsman Required for Australian Residential Contour / Feature Surveys

About the project

We are an Australian surveying business looking for an experienced survey draftsman to prepare high-quality residential contour and feature survey plans. Our current workflow uses DrafixCAD, a legacy drafting program that is no longer supported. We are therefore seeking a capable draftsman who can review examples of our completed plans and reproduce a very similar professional end product using the CAD/drafting package they know best. The initial engagement will be a paid trial project. You will receive a completed example plan, the relevant raw field-survey data, and site photographs. Your task will be to recreate the plan accurately and present it in a style closely aligned with the supplied example. This trial will help us confirm that your drafting standards, communication, software workflow, and attention to detail suit our business. For the right person, we expect to have approximately two projects per week available initially. Over the next 6–12 months, this may grow into regular full-time work. Scope of Work The successful freelancer will be expected to interpret the supplied survey information and produce a clear, accurate residential contour/feature survey drawing. Typical work may include: Plotting supplied survey points, levels, spot heights, contours, boundaries, building outlines, driveways, fences, retaining walls, services, trees, and other visible features. Applying logical layers, linework, symbols, labels, dimensions, notes, title information, and presentation standards consistent with our example plans. Using site photographs to assist with identifying and representing features accurately. Delivering editable source files in the drafting software used, together with a polished PDF suitable for client issue. Incorporating reasonable feedback during the trial and ongoing jobs so drawings maintain a consistent company style. Required Experience Please apply only if you can demonstrate relevant experience in survey drafting, particularly for residential work. We are looking for someone who has: Experience drafting topographic, contour, feature, detail, or existing-conditions surveys for residential properties. Strong ability to work from raw field data, coordinate files, point lists, CSV/TXT data, survey exports, or similar supplied survey information. Strong CAD drafting and plan-presentation skills. You may use AutoCAD, BricsCAD, Civil 3D, DraftSight, MicroStation, or another suitable professional package. Careful attention to levels, contour interpretation, annotations, lineweights, layer discipline, and drawing accuracy. Clear written English and reliable communication. The ability to meet agreed turnaround times and accept constructive feedback. Australian surveying experience is highly regarded, but it is not essential if you have comparable experience and can closely follow our supplied plan standards. Trial Project The first assignment will be a paid recreation of one previous residential survey plan. We will provide: Finished example plan Raw field data Site photographs Any relevant notes Your deliverables for the trial will be an editable CAD/source file, a PDF plan, and a brief note identifying any assumptions or information you need clarified.
