About the project

I own a 1900-era sandstone home in the UK and I’m ready to add a contemporary rear extension that feels light, spacious and unmistakably modern while still sitting comfortably against the original stonework. I’m looking for fresh architectural inspiration—concept sketches, mood boards, or a concise concept package—that shows how a modern volume with an open floor plan and generous floor-to-ceiling glazing could plug into the existing fabric. Key points I need to see addressed in your concept: • How the new structure meets the sandstone without visually overpowering it. • A layout that flows as a single open space—kitchen, dining and living combined—with clear lines of sight. • Use of expansive windows or sliding glass walls to maximise natural light and garden views, plus ideas for discreet framing so the glass feels seamless. - I want to install a shower room/ toilet and utility room. I’m open on secondary materials and finishes; your proposal can explore glass, steel, timber or anything you feel complements the stone. Sustainability touches, daylight analyses, or quick 3D massing models would be a bonus but aren’t mandatory—the priority is a compelling visual narrative I can discuss with a local architect for planning. Please share a sample or two of comparable modern interventions you’ve designed. Deliverables: a concise PDF (5-10 pages) with annotated visuals and a brief design rationale.
