PLA Mechanical Casing CAD Design
INR 600–1500
About the project
I have a working prototype that now needs a proper mechanical casing so it can move from the bench to real-world use. The enclosure will be 3D-printed in PLA on a standard FDM printer, so the model must respect the usual wall-thickness and overhang limits while still looking clean and professional. Core requirements • The design is strictly a mechanical casing (no electronics layout inside). • Integrate mounting holes for securing the unit to a frame. • Add ventilation slots that balance airflow and strength. • A combination of snap-fit and screw assembly will be designed, to aid with secure installations. I’ll supply rough dimensions, photos of the current rig, and the clearances I already measured; you translate that into a production-ready CAD model. Filleting sharp edges, adding draft where needed, and generally “designing for PLA” is expected. Functional aesthetics matter too—I want it to look as if it rolled off a small-batch injection-molding line. Deliverables 1. Editable 3D CAD file (STEP, Fusion 360, .blend or .stl files/archives). 2. Print-ready STL with orientation suggestions. 3. Brief build notes: nozzle size, layer height, and any post-processing tips. 4. One revision round after the first test print to fine-tune fit. Acceptance will be based on my successful test print: the parts must snap together cleanly, all mounts align, and the case withstands gentle torque without cracking.
