Description
CloudSat, the NASA Earth science satellite launched in April 2006 that profiles the inside of clouds with a sensitive radar while flying in formation with other Earth-observing satellites. This model is finished in greys: an octagonal body with dark side panels and white radiators, a cream ring on top, a broad disc underneath and two wings of three solar panels each.
Technical details: about 60,000 polygons and 180,000 vertices, with 93 colour materials and no image textures. The mesh is moderate, so it suits desktop real time and may need trimming for mobile. It is scaled to 5 metres for AiZity's catalogue scale.
The download includes GLB for web viewers and three.js, FBX for Unity, Unreal Engine and Maya, OBJ as a widely supported mesh, and BLEND for Blender. AiZity cleaned up the original (centred, grounded and renamed the parts) and converted it to these formats.
Good for weather and climate lessons, Earth observation explainers, orbital animations and science presentations.
