Description
Aura, the NASA Earth Observing System satellite launched in 2004 to study the ozone layer, air quality and climate. The model shows a gold-foil body lined with instrument boxes and white radiator panels, a curved instrument housing, a white dish antenna at one end and a single long solar wing with blue cells on its front face.
Technical details: about 126,000 polygons and 81,000 vertices, UV-mapped, with 16 materials and 1 texture map. It suits desktop real-time use; decimate it before mobile or VR. It is scaled to 5 metres for AiZity's catalogue scale.
The download includes GLB for web viewers and three.js, FBX for Unity, Unreal Engine and Maya, OBJ as a widely supported mesh, and BLEND for Blender. Textures come in a separate folder. AiZity cleaned up the original (centred, grounded and renamed the parts) and converted it to these formats.
Good for ozone and air quality lessons, climate science explainers, A-Train constellation animations and Earth observation presentations.
License: Public domain, made by NASA/Christopher M. Garcia (a U.S. government work). Free for personal and commercial use; please credit NASA. NASA logos and insignia are not included, and use must not suggest NASA endorsement.
