Description
The Ares I, the crew rocket NASA developed for the Constellation programme to launch Orion capsules, in painted colours. Its white first stage, a five-segment solid booster derived from the Space Shuttle's, has thin segment lines and coloured rings near the nozzle; above sit a flared interstage, a tan and black upper section and the capsule fairing with its pointed launch abort tower. A test version, Ares I-X, flew in 2009.
Technical details: about 4,700 polygons and 14,000 vertices, with 9 colour materials and no image textures. The very low count suits mobile, web and AR. It is scaled to 20 metres for AiZity's catalogue scale.
The download includes GLB for web viewers and three.js, FBX for Unity, Unreal Engine and Maya, OBJ as a widely supported mesh, and BLEND for Blender. AiZity cleaned up the original (centred, grounded and renamed the parts) and converted it to these formats.
Good for launch animations, Constellation programme history, rocket size comparisons and space museum displays.
License: Public domain, made by NASA/Michael D. Carbajal (a U.S. government work). Free for personal and commercial use; please credit NASA. NASA logos and insignia are not included, and use must not suggest NASA endorsement.
