Description
Pioneer 10, launched by NASA in March 1972, the first spacecraft to cross the asteroid belt and the first to fly past Jupiter, in December 1973. The model shows the large white high-gain dish, the gold hexagonal equipment compartment behind it, two truss booms carrying the nuclear power units and the long, thin magnetometer boom.
Technical details: about 8,200 polygons and 8,800 vertices, UV-mapped, with 11 materials and 8 texture maps. The low count suits real-time scenes, web viewers and mobile. It is scaled to 5 metres for AiZity's catalogue scale; the real dish is about 2.7 metres across.
The download includes GLB for web viewers and three.js, FBX for Unity, Unreal Engine and Maya, OBJ as a widely supported mesh, and BLEND for Blender. Textures come in a separate folder. AiZity cleaned up the original (centred, grounded and renamed the parts) and converted it to these formats.
Good for space history lessons, Jupiter flyby animations, museum displays and science fiction scenes.
License: Public domain, made by NASA/JPL/Eyes on the Solar System (a U.S. government work). Free for personal and commercial use; please credit NASA. NASA logos and insignia are not included, and use must not suggest NASA endorsement.
